RePete 1.2.0 and RePete for iOS

RePete 1.2.0 is now available! This update introduces a few graphical improvements and makes changes to several levels for a number of reasons. The main reason is so that they are better formatted for mobile devices, since this version will be released soon for iPhones! However, some other things have been considered as well. In particular, levels that felt like entirely unnecessary filler levels have been improved and now attempt to teach the player how to use Pete’s powers to solve certain kinds of puzzles.

Level 1-7, once a filler level, now teaches the player how to use Pete’s powers to make longer jumps.

Along with RePete 1.2.0, RePete is almost ready to launch on iOS devices! It has been an interesting process porting the game. The code itself was easy, since I wrote it in Lua, but there were some design issues that I hadn’t considered that I had to fix for the small screen of a mobile device. For example, the instructional text in level 1-7 (above) appears off-screen on smaller devices (i.e. iPhone 5 or older). To fix this problem, I implemented a way to automatically move the text back in viewing range.

The smaller screen also presented a problem with some menus, such as the level select menu, which have been updated on devices with smaller screens.

The level select menu on an iPhone 5. The regular menu does not fit on this smaller screen, so it was widened to fit.

RePete is Going Mobile

Howdy!

RePete is on its way to mobile devices soon. I have a port of it running right now on my iPhone!

Here’s the plan for RePete at this point:

  1. Make adjustments for screen size. Some messages and level elements don’t fit on the phone’s screen, and the menus will need to be entirely replaced for mobile devices.
  2. Integrate with mobile frameworks. I’ll be investigating how to connect RePete with mobile-only frameworks to enhance the iOS/Android version, for example, Game Center on Apple devices.
  3. Get Greenlit. This doesn’t have to do with the mobile version, but if I can push through and get RePete on Steam, I’ll have a lot more steam myself to finish the mobile version.
  4. Continue improving. I might look into adding new worlds with new gameplay mechanics, or updating some graphics, or adding to the soundtrack, or any number of things to make RePete even better.

Thanks for checking out RePete! Stay tuned for more info on the mobile ports. iOS version is confirmed for 2016, Android version is likely as well but with no definite timeframe.

Updates

Howdy, everyone!

I’ve been working on polishing RePete, and the first thing to fix up was the forcefields. I’ve added generator brackets and a fancy pulsing glow effect that you would expect to see in a forcefield.

gameplay

I’ve added a similar effect to the gem in the exit archway when the archway is activated by collecting enough gems. Finally, when RePete disappears, he now leaves behind some sparkling energy that quickly dissipates.

Please share this game with your friends so we can see RePete on Steam! And please share your ideas by commenting or sending me an email through this website!

Just so you don’t forget, here’s the link to RePete’s Greenlight page: RePete on Greenlight.

Thanks,

Luke
